Electronic Reserves – Student Information Sheet
How to View Your Professor's Electronic Course Materials
How "ERes" Works:
Electronic Reserves (ERes) are readings (journal
articles, syllabi, old exams, etc.) that your professor has asked the library
to make available for your specific course. ERes makes these materials Web
accessible! You can connect to ERes 7 days a week, 24 hours a day from any web
enabled computer (on or off campus).
Viewing ERes Course Documents:
Course documents on ERes are posted in a variety of
formats (i.e. Adobe Acrobat .pdf files, HTML Web Pages, etc.). Your machine
will need the appropriate software for each format.
Reading .pdf files - The "Adobe Acrobat
Reader" Software:
Most commonly, you will find your course materials
were scanned and presented to you in the Adobe Acrobat .pdf format. This file
type is an exact ("photocopy like") scan of an article or course
document.
In order to view .pdf course documents from ERes, you
will need to have the "Adobe Acrobat Reader" software installed on
your computer. All computers in campus libraries and most computers in campus
labs already have this software installed. Note: A printed .pdf file is much
clearer than the screen version.
If you wish to download and install the FREE Adobe
Acrobat Reader software for your own personal computer, get your copy from
Adobe at: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html
Please contact AU Helpdesk (2222) if you have questions about installing the software.
