Following is a description of Herrick's collections and their locations.
General Collection (circulation policies)
The General Collection consists primarily of books which support the curriculum of Alfred University's College of Business, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the doctoral program in School Psychology. The collection is organized by Library of Congress call number.
The General Collection is located on the first and second floors of the library. Books with call numbers A-HQ are on the second floor south wing, books with call numbers HS-PN are on the second floor east wing, and books with call numbers PN-Z are on the first floor east wing.
Reference Collection
The Reference Collection consists of standard works such as encyclopedias, atlases, dictionaries, thesauri, almanacs, directories, and bibliographies. Reference books do not circulate.
The Reference Collection is located on the first floor in the Learning Commons.
McNaughton Collection (circulation policies)
The McNaughton collection consists of current popular fiction and nonfiction for recreational reading.
The McNaughton Collection is located on the first floor, in the area between the Learning Commons and the cafe.
New Books (circulation policies)
Recently acquired books are located in the first floor by the elevator.
Current Newspapers and Magazines (circulation policies)
Newspapers and current issues of highly-used magazines are located in the first floor lounge.
Movie Collection (circulation policies)
Herrick's collection of movies in DVD and VHS formats is held at Herrick’s front desk. Cards describing each movie are located near the front desk; bring the card to the front desk to check out the movie.
Music Collection (circulation policies)
Herrick's collection of music CDs is located in the first floor lounge. Please ask for assistance.
Audiobook Collection (circulation policies)
Herrick's collection of audiobooks is located on the first floor, across from the handicap entrance.
Children's Literature Collection (circulation policies)
The Children's Literature Collection is located on the second floor in room 212.
Yearbook Collection
The Yearbook Collection is located on the first floor in the Learning Commons.
Oversized Books
Oversized books are located on the first floor, across from the Computer Lab.
