This local history book collection, included in the library's online catalog, serves a supportive role for any researcher interested in this region of western New York State. Among the materials available are genealogies (Crandall, Sharpless, Whitney, Potter, Rosebush, Burdick, etc.), printed histories of the Town of Alfred and Allegany County, and books published by Alfred University faculty and alumni.
Published material related to Allegany County's fight against a low-level radioactive waste dump are found in the Alfred Collection. These materials are supported with a collection of newsletters, N.Y.S. commission meeting minutes, videos, and other literature.
The collection also contains works concerning the Seventh Day Baptist denomination (founders of our town and university). Included are such volumes as the Rev. A.J.C. Bond's Reconstruction Messages from a Seventh Day Baptist Pulpit in War Times (1919); F.S. Green's History of the First Seventh Day Baptist Church in Alfred, 1816-1916; and Seventh Day Baptists in Europe and America, vols.1-3.
